But Jesus said, “ Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”
In a land Far, Far, Away…..
Sounds like a fairy tale, doesn’t it? The above scripture was enlightened to me years ago. It was one of the very first scriptures that seemed to almost jump off the page at me, as if it were trying to say, “Get this one!” I remember reading and reading it. Then all of a sudden, as if a light were turned on in my heart, the phrase "for of such" kept ringing through my heart over and over. Jesus didn’t say only if you are a child could you then have the Kingdom of Heaven. What that said to me was IF you will receive it, the Kingdom of Heaven would be yours. The key is if you will just believe like a little child. Then I thought to myself, What do little children do? Well, they believe everything they are told. They don’t know not to.
Think about it just a minute. Take the time right now and just think about it. When you were little you didn’t know right from wrong unless someone told you. You are fresh and untainted by the world when you are young. What you learn and what you are around has a great bearing on what you will become and what you think. A lot of your behaviors are learned. You believe anything anyone tells you because you don’t know not to. Your belief system is like a sponge and you will believe anything. Well, that is exactly what Jesus is telling us here. IF you believe, the Kingdom of Heaven can be yours right here and right now. You don’t have to wait till you get to Heaven to receive it.
Why then do so many people have such a hard time on this earth? Why do so many people who are supposed to be believers have such a hard time? Well, that has a couple of answers. First, when we become older, our belief system becomes hardened by the world and life just keeps coming at us, so it’s hard for us to believe that it could be so simple. Secondly, Satan, who is the enemy of our soul, does everything in his power on earth to stop us from entering into this Kingdom. He already knows what is available to us and he does not want us to have it.
In case you are not aware, he was the most beautiful angel in Heaven. He was a worshiping angel that wanted to overthrow God. He became so prideful that he even convinced 1/3 of the angels in Heaven to go with him. God said, “Enough is enough” and cast him down to earth. He is a fallen angel.
There is a movie called Finding Neverland in which Johnny Depp plays the famous playwright, J. M. Barrie, who wrote the play Peter Pan. I don’t have to tell you about that. Anyway, he said a line at the end of this movie that really hit home for me. He was explaining to Peter how to go to Neverland and he said, “All you have to do is believe to go there.” As Jesus Christ is my living witness, all you have to do to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven that Jesus is talking about, is just to believe. It is so simple that the well learned can miss it, yet so easy that a child can receive it.
There is a Kingdom of which Jesus talks about in the Bible that is operating in full force upon this earth while we are here. This is truly the stuff fairy tales are made of. You can’t see it with your eyes but it doesn’t mean that it’s not there. All you have to do is just believe to go there. You cannot imagine what is available to you in this Kingdom.
‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’
Another one of the early scriptures that I really took to heart was the above scripture. I recall sitting Indian style before the Lord with my Bible in my lap. I read the scripture out loud to God and then said, “You say that you are no respecter of persons (another favorite of mine!) You say here in this Word that if I call unto you, you will show me great and mighty things, which I do not know. So I am calling to you now to show me great and mighty things that I do not know.” I figured that if I was going to believe that God was really real, I was going to have to expect Him to hear me and answer me. Well, He did, He has, and He doesn’t stop…ever. He tells me things I need for myself in every area of my life.
1 Corinthians 1:27
But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty.
How many of us really need some fairy tale Kingdom of Heaven life on this earth? Well, I don’t know about you, but I want everything that God has for me right here and right now. I don’t want to be on my deathbed getting ready to take my last breath and wish I had done this or wish I had tried that. I believed so I did receive what I asked for. It’s so simple a child can get it, yet so simple the wise won’t get it.
Let me leave you with this quote, “The wisdom of all of the ages is within you” (M.Painter). It’s in a Kingdom Far, Far, Away…
