What is your definition of a miracle?

A recent article asked the question who was better at miracles, Jesus or science?  Six biblical miracles were listed and then what science has been able to “replicate” regarding Jesus’ miracles were listed.

Apparently, now being born of a virgin is not something exclusive of Christ but has been duplicated because of artificial insemination.  Jesus made the lame walk.  Now science has too made the lame walk.  Because of new developments, last week a research center enabled paraplegics to stand and take a few steps.  Jesus fed thousands from a few fish/loaves of bread.  Advances in genetic engineering and agriculture have saved thousands from starving also.  Jesus made the blind see.  Doctors can now remove cataracts, giving people the ability to see again.  In fact, the writer of the article suggested, “Scientists have managed to one-up Christ in the domain of vision improvement,” saying that some laser surgery has given some 20/10 vision or better.  How is that “one-upping” Christ?

Science, however, has yet to figure out how to turn water into wine or raise the dead back to life.

Some may be confused as to what a miracle is.  A miracle is an occurrence that happens to man or in nature that can only occur because of its supernatural divine origin.  It is ordered by God.  No man has the power to perform a miracle, or duplicate a miracle; miracles can only be attributed to God.

In John 3:27, John the Baptist was speaking to his disciples when he said, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from Heaven.”  I do not care what anyone is talking about in this world, this applies to anything and everything we are, we have, we can do, etc.

Therefore, so that no one is confused, we can do nothing unless it is ordained by God.  He allows man to uncover the cures to diseases, heal the dying and give sight to the blind because He gives the answers to man.  Man will never be so smart that he can do anything outside of what he receives from God-the only true miracle worker.
